Owner's EDGE

“People buy you, not the product!” “You are the product.” “Sell yourself”... have you heard these sayings? Have you ever been guilty of drowning your sales staff in these over used platitudes of sales cultures gone by? STOP IT! Yes, an attractive, energetic, persuasive sales person CAN initiate and close a sale. But, can he/she make a MEMBER? Consumers of health and wellness services are not like purchasers of cars. They don’t show up every 5 years to trade in a used car for a new fuel efficient model. Club members require a bit more than a slogan, a gimmick, and that new gym smell. In order to create a life long member, one must create a regular, replicable experience without which the consumer simply will not live.

Once upon a time, clubs were packed simply because they existed. Either the facility was the only one in town, the community was growing so much that every gym could flourish, or simply it was “en vogue” to belong. Today, not only is our economy lacking, but so is exercise adherence. More publications than ever exist to inform consumers about their health, there is a club, studio, or track on virtually every corner, and almost everyone knows someone in health and/or fitness...

Maximize Class Participation with Heart Rate

What are the benefits of training with heart rate?
A Polar training computer provides personalized feedback. It displays calories burned and tracks energy output so you can instantly measure class participation. It’s a way to provide personal coaching to each member of the class telling them to slow down or speed up based on specific heart rate zones. This way you maximize your time and effort and help provide your class with tangible results. Additionally, you can download participant information to the web to track progress over time.

So what is a Polar training computer?
It consists of a watch worn on your wrist, and a transmitter that you wear around your chest.

How does it work?
The transmitter picks up the signals of your heart, and sends them wirelessly to the watch you wear on your wrist. The Polar training computer calculates your Target Zone, a heart rate range that is based on a percentage of your Maximum Heart Rate. There are specific Target Zones that help guide you to your most effective intensity on a given day.

Finding the right products for your studio can take more time and energy than some of your toughest classes! For many small fitness studios, equipment can be a daunting endeavor, consuming considerable amounts of space without a guaranteed return. The real trick is to find something light, portable, stackable and diverse that offers options for all age groups in both group fitness and personal training. The ARC Step (Aerobic Resistance Conditioning) offers exactly that.

“It’s a new way of doing things,” said Gay Gasper, one of SCW Fitness Education’s premier faculty members. “I love it because it’s so versatile; you can do strength, cardio, balance, and use both sides.” [Read More]
