Owner's EDGE

As we swiftly head into 2011, new equipment and new programs creep onto your budget plan, potentially eating at your bottom line. Though equipment and machines may be necessary for you this year, new programming may be the best possible resolution.

For less than the cost of one treadmill, Group Exercise programming can bring life to an area of your business that may be neglected-maximizing your resources, outreach, referrals, membership and more. This is an area in which rewards are rapid and far-reaching, showing a committed interest in improving your staff and a commitment to invest in your members. Sustainable programming allows you to both upskill your staff while bringing ongoing, long-term, and

Zumba Fitness®, the organization behind the acclaimed fitness-party workout, has developed Aqua Zumba®, a water-based version of the Latin-inspired workout.

The program is now offered by Zumba® Fitness-trained instructors in more than 400 locations across the country including fitness clubs, community centers, YMCA's and rehabilitation centers.

"Aquatic workouts provide tremendous benefits for the body, but they're also fun and invigorating" said Alberto Perlman, CEO of Zumba® Fitness. "Everyone loves a pool party, and that's exactly what Zumba® brings to the aquatic world, with our contagious Latin and international rhythms and spicy dance moves."

Aqua Zumba® follows the traditional Zumba® formula already popular with the seven-and-a-half million people taking Zumba® classes each week. However, the program's rhythms, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Reggaeton among others, have been adapted to use the water's resistance for a safe and extremely effective aquatic workout... [Read More]

Give Members What They Need from Group Ex Classes... with INTELLIGENT MUSIC™!

Each time Group Ex students walk through the studio door, deep down, they are looking for so much more than a workout. They want to be empowered, inspired, relaxed, and elevated, all at once. One of the most powerful tools that instructors have is music!

Music helps develop the experience in the space it fills, through tempo and tone. Music can awaken our souls, pump us with excitement, and even soothe us when we are anxious or stressed. Musical vibration effects our skin, our fluids, our organs - so isn't it important for instructors to give students what they need?

Power Music® was the very first company to market 32-count phrased mixed music, developed especially for fitness professionals. Fitness music has a dependable tempo, offering instructors the freedom to coach and cue without being concerned about unusual beats, or breaks in the music.

Twisting is one of the seven key movement patterns that were necessary for survival in our ancestors' non-mechanized lifestyles. If you could not bend, push, pull, squat, lunge, twist or walk, jog or run (the last three are grouped together as "gait") quickly and efficiently without having to think about what your body was doing, you probably would not last long in a primitive society. I have termed these the Primal Pattern® movements. Even though our Westernized lives are quite different nowadays, our bodies have not changed from a musculoskeletal perspective and we still need to be able to perform all seven movements with at least our body weight to decrease the risk of injury during daily life, work or sports activities.

Twisting may well be the most important movement pattern for anyone to master and perform, as it is integral to almost every movement performed in a functional environment. For example, twisting is a key component in any throwing motion or racquet sport. Unfortunately, the most common source of back injury is from some type of movement that combines bending and twisting, such as picking up a suitcase. If you can't twist correctly, you must learn to do so before an injury happens.
